The Australian Karen Organisation Victoria (AKOV) proudly celebrated the official opening of its new office, marking an important milestone in its commitment to supporting and strengthening the Karen community in Victoria.

The organisation’s journey began in 1996 with the formation of the working committee of the Australian Karen Organisation (AKO). For nearly three decades, AKO has contributed to cultural preservation, settlement support, community development, advocacy, and cultural celebrations. AKOV acknowledges and sincerely thanks the past leaders, committee members, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication has built a strong foundation for the organisation.

Building on this legacy, AKOV aims to strengthen its organisational capacity, preserve Karen culture, language, traditions, and identity, and provide greater support for women, children, young people, families, and older community members.

The new office will serve as a welcoming space for community gatherings, collaboration, planning, and the development of initiatives that benefit the Karen community. It also represents an important step towards building partnerships with local councils, churches, service providers, and other organisations.

AKOV warmly thanks everyone who contributed to making this milestone possible. The organisation welcomes continued community support and cooperation as it works towards a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable future.
